Souvenir and StatTrak in CS2: what they are, what they cost, how to check
The same skin can exist in three versions: normal, StatTrak™ with a kill counter, and souvenir with gold tournament stickers. They are three different items with different rules: a counter cannot be added after the fact, a souvenir never comes out of a case, and StatTrak and souvenir quality never share an item. Here is where each version comes from, what the premium is at live prices, why two souvenirs from the same tournament can differ in price by an order of magnitude, and how to verify a copy.

In short: three versions of one skin
- The normal version. The base item: it drops from cases, collections and contracts.
- StatTrak™. The same skin with a counter: on a weapon it counts kills, on a music kit it counts MVP awards. A separate item, not a property.
- Souvenir. An item carrying gold team stickers and a player autograph, tied to a Major match. A souvenir is never StatTrak.
- A counter cannot be bolted on. No tool turns a normal skin into a StatTrak™ one — you can only move a counter between two StatTrak versions of the same weapon.
- Some skins have no StatTrak at all. The AWP | Dragon Lore, for instance, exists as a souvenir and never as StatTrak.
- Since May 2026 souvenirs work in contracts. Their souvenir attributes are stripped and the output is a normal item.
StatTrak: what the counter actually counts
StatTrak™ is a separate version of an item with a built-in counter. On a weapon it goes up with every kill made with that weapon; on a music kit it goes up with every MVP award earned while the kit is equipped. The number is visible in the inventory and on inspection, it travels with the item through trades and sales, and it never resets.
- Where it comes from. The StatTrak version drops from cases and capsules alongside the normal one — a different variant, not an upgrade.
- What does not count. Bot kills, kills with another weapon, and modes where stats are not tracked.
- Trading does not reset it. Buying a StatTrak skin means buying somebody else’s kills; some collectors hunt for round numbers.
- Gloves have no StatTrak. Knives do.
The StatTrak Swap Tool: what it can and cannot do
Steam Support describes the tool in CS2 — StatTrak Swap Tool in two sentences: it is a single-use item that transfers kill counts from one StatTrak weapon to another, so long as the weapon is the same.
- Same weapon only. “Kills from a StatTrak M4A1-S can only be transferred to another StatTrak M4A1-S”, says the FAQ. Not to an AK-47, not to a knife.
- Both items must be StatTrak. A count cannot move onto a normal skin.
- Wear and pattern are irrelevant. Only the number moves.
- The tool is single use. It is consumed on use and costs $0.99 in game or on the Market.
- A purchased tool cannot be traded. Since the 12 November 2025 update, newly purchased Name Tags and StatTrak™ Swap Tools can no longer be traded or listed on the Community Market.
What the StatTrak premium is worth
The premium is not fixed: it depends on how many StatTrak copies exist and on how popular the skin is with players rather than collectors. Below is a live comparison of the normal and StatTrak versions at the best market prices, followed by the price ladder of Major souvenir packages.
DreamHack 2014 Cobblestone · 2014 €10 106.28
EMS One 2014 Dust II · 2014 €1 742.58
ESL One Cologne 2014 Cobblestone · 2014 €949.34
DreamHack 2013 Dust II · 2013 €858.23
ESL One Katowice 2015 Cobblestone · 2015 €746.76
Atlanta 2017 Cobblestone · 2017 €644.76
MLG Columbus 2016 Cobblestone · 2016 €636.05
DreamHack Cluj-Napoca 2015 Cobblestone · 2015 €567.25Package prices are the best market offers. A package is tied to a match and a map: the more valuable the map collection and the older the tournament, the higher the price.
We take the first wear that has a price for both the normal and the StatTrak™ version. The premium is a ratio, not a dollar difference. Data refreshes about once an hour.
Why some skins have no StatTrak
- The collection is a souvenir collection. Items from map collections — Cobblestone, Cache, Train — only drop from souvenir packages and have no StatTrak variant. Hence the paradox: the AWP | Dragon Lore exists as a souvenir and never as StatTrak.
- The skin predates the mechanic. Several early collections shipped before StatTrak existed and never got it retroactively.
- It is not a weapon. Gloves, stickers, graffiti, agents and charms have no counter — there is nothing to count.
- The item comes from a special source. Medals, coins and service items exist in a single variant.
Souvenirs: where the gold stickers come from
A souvenir item is a skin from a map collection carrying gold stickers: the two teams of the match and the autograph of the player who took round MVP. A souvenir is always tied to one match of one Major, which is why the same skin exists in hundreds of sticker combinations.
- A package instead of a case. Souvenir packages open without a key and return exactly one item from the map collection.
- A souvenir is never StatTrak. The two qualities are mutually exclusive.
- The stickers cannot be removed. Unlike ordinary stickers, gold ones are baked into the souvenir.
- Packages are never reissued. The print run closed with the tournament, so supply only shrinks.
- Packages from past Majors are still traded. They can be bought and opened at any time — historical prices are in the block above and on the map pages.
What changed in 2026
At the IEM Cologne 2026 Major Valve rebuilt the souvenir mechanic. The tournament announcement introduced the Souvenir-O-Matic: “Take any normal or Souvenir quality weapon in your inventory and select a completed match and one of the players. You’ll get your weapon back in Souvenir quality with gold team, autograph, and map stickers applied.”
- A souvenir is now made from your own item. No waiting for a package to drop — you need the skin and a finished match of the tournament.
- The Major Shop runs on tokens. Stickers are bought with tokens and prices move with demand; if a sticker drops 25 or more tokens within a day of your purchase, Valve refunds the difference automatically.
- Pick’Em and the Viewer Pass pay in tokens. Every coin upgrade level is worth 300 tokens, spendable on stickers or souvenirs.
- Half the revenue goes to the scene. Valve stated that 50% of Major Shop and Major Pass revenue is shared with the organiser, the teams and the players.
- Old packages are untouched. Souvenir packages up to and including Budapest 2025 remain ordinary market items.
How to verify a copy
- 1 Read the name
The quality is part of the item name:
StatTrak™ AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested)orSouvenir AWP | Dragon Lore (Factory New). A name cannot be faked in an inventory. - 2 Check the counter
A StatTrak version shows a kill count in its description. Zero on an expensive skin is normal; a missing line means the item is simply normal.
- 3 Open the souvenir stickers
On a souvenir they are gold and listed in the description: two teams, the tournament, the map, and the MVP autograph when there is one.
- 4 Confirm through the inspect link
The “Inspect in game” link exposes the float, the pattern and the stickers of that exact copy — paste it into the checker, no login needed.
- 5 Sanity-check the price
A suspiciously good deal on an expensive souvenir is the classic bait. Compare prices across markets and keep the rules from How to sell skins safely in mind.
Myths
| Myth | What actually happens |
|---|---|
| StatTrak can be added to any skin | No. It is a separate version of the item and cannot be switched on. |
| The Swap Tool moves a counter to any weapon | No. Only between two StatTrak versions of the same weapon. |
| A souvenir is just a skin with stickers | It is its own quality: the stickers cannot be removed, StatTrak is impossible, and the origin is tied to a match. |
| Souvenirs cannot be used in contracts | Since 22 May 2026 they can — the souvenir attributes are stripped and the output is a normal item. |
| A kill counter can be reset | No. It can only be moved to another copy of the same weapon. |
| StatTrak is always more expensive | Not always: on skins that players do not actually use the premium can be zero or negative. |

Maps and their collectionsQuestions et réponses
What does StatTrak count in CS2?
On a weapon, kills made with that item; on a music kit, MVP awards. The counter lives inside the item and does not reset when it is traded.
Can StatTrak be added to a normal skin?
No. The StatTrak version is a separate item. The only transfer possible is moving a counter between two StatTrak versions of the same weapon with a Swap Tool.
How much does the StatTrak Swap Tool cost?
Steam Support lists it at $0.99 in game or on the Community Market. It is single use, and since November 2025 a freshly purchased tool cannot be traded or re-listed.
Why is there no StatTrak Dragon Lore?
Because it belongs to a souvenir map collection: those skins only come from souvenir packages, and no StatTrak variant exists for them.
How do I get a souvenir skin?
Historically by opening a Major souvenir package; packages from past tournaments are still traded. At IEM Cologne 2026 Valve added the Souvenir-O-Matic, which converts your own weapon into a souvenir for a chosen match and player.
Why do souvenirs from the same tournament sell for different money?
The price depends on the skin and its wear, the rarity of the map collection, which teams are on the stickers, and the MVP autograph.
Is there such a thing as a StatTrak souvenir?
No. The qualities are mutually exclusive: an item is either normal, StatTrak™ or souvenir.
Can souvenirs go into trade-up contracts?
Yes, since 22 May 2026. The souvenir attributes are removed and the result is a normal item of a quality one higher.
