How is the inventory value history calculated?
Once a day we store the inventory value at the best market buy prices — those snapshots build the chart. It is a buy-price estimate, not what you take home after marketplace fees. While the history accumulates we show the 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day change; next to the value change we show the return, which has deposits removed, so a new knife in the inventory does not inflate it.
Where does per-item profit come from if I never entered a purchase price?
The basis is the item price at the moment we first saw it in the inventory. Steam does not expose trade history, so it is not your purchase price but an honest observation start. When you add more of the same item the basis becomes a weighted average, and when an item leaves the inventory the difference between basis and last price is recorded as realized profit.
